1999 YZ 125 Mods

Just curious on what mods everybody has on their '99

Has anybody ever found a carbon fiber skid plate?

Haven't found a model specific pipe guard since the 99 pipe was a one year wonder.

I've got a 01 with a 99 engine.

other than a shitty PC pipe all my mods are suspension and control related. The stock brakes are horrid in my opinion. I swapped the brake lines to braided and but an oversized rotor on the front.

Interesting to know anything else. Also have a 99 250 looking to mod

I've got a 97 yz125 and the only mods I have are power reeds, air filter, and triple clamps. I like the stock setup but I'm thinking of adding an aftermarket pipe and maybe a v-force.

I've got a vforce on mine but since I didn't ride it when it was stock I couldn't tell how much of a difference that made

Been thinking about an FMF gnarly pipe. I think I've seen good reviews but I've also heard it lowers power? Anybody know how it really performs?

I've had a LOT of different parts on my bike and here is what i have found:

FMF pipe gave a noticeable difference in power the PC pipe does not.

Vforce reeds have no noticeable gain over properly functioning stock reeds.

Aftermarket silencers are a waste of money unless your stock one is trashed.

Proper jetting is important and power gained by aftermarket parts is due to correction in improper jetting.

Which FMF pipe did you end up using? And what jets did you use?

I am interested in mods for this bike too since I just picked up a well used 1999 YZ 125 myself for a restore. I am planning on doing the Eric Gorr 144 mod as well as a total strip down and rebuild from the frame up. It look like it will be a good project for my son and I.......

Most people like the gnarly for added low to mid power

I thought FMF only produces the fatty for '99

That sounds right... PC and FMF made limited products for the 99 since the OEM pipe in 99 was slightly different from the pre 99 and 00/01 exhaust.

But I noticed the FMF and PC pipes from 2000/2001 bolt up to the 99 bike just fine. They are cheaper and easier to find also.
