98 xr600r dual sport jetting.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am new here and I come to you knowledgable people looking for some help. I recently purchased a 98 XR600r that has been dual sported. The problem it is having is that it bucks and backfires at higher speeds like it is running lean. I opened up the carb and it is absolutely clean inside and so are the jets. The previous owner installed a 180 main jet and a 65 pilot for sea level riding and it still seems to run lean. The only aftermarket stuff that has been done to it is the fmf powercore 4 exhaust on it. Does this seem like a jetting issue to you? Thanks so much.

Block off your intake with duct tape by about half, if it goes away, it's probably a lean jet, or low fuel height.
