Exhaust

Decide how your going to use your bike, plan from there. Don't put a WFO pipe on a commuter or woods bike.

The MRD Z-PRO (formerly SSW) has been proven to make the most top end HP on the DRZ, the Yoshi is a pretty close second.  One is going to be just as loud as the other.  Unless you're racing and need every last bit of power, either will be fine.

Would I be wise to just put head pipe on if I don't want it to be crazy loud or is that not worth doing as far as power

It certainly won't hurt, but it's not going to make much of a difference in power with the stock muffler and carb.  If you still want to go that route, you could get an E header and use it with the stock S exhaust.  You just have to have a muffler shop expand the S muffler connection a bit.  Most muffler shops can do it in just a few seconds, more than likely free of charge.  That's what I did on my S and it worked fine.  You would also need the E mid-pipe gasket, clamp, and bolt.  You likely won't notice much difference in power, maybe just a tiny bit more top end.

The best power set up you can do would while still staying stock quiet would be to add the FCR, E header, and E cams.  The bike will stay as quiet as stock but the power will jump from the stock 33-34 to nearly 40.  You could add a big bore kit on too and gain another 3-4 hp but still stay stealthy.  Now, throw the full MRD Z-Pro exhaust on that setup and you've got nearly 50 hp but a LOT of noise.

Someone just sound tested both and the MRD is 3-4 dbs higher uncorked AND with respective quiet cores.

Around 100 dbs WITH quiet core!!
