Breather tube just hanging?

Look at this parts fiche for the air cleaner on the XR400 the top tube of the crankcase breather is just hanging there. The airbox has already been modified with the removal of the snorkel.

 

I have had bike where the breather goes into the the airbox and others where it just went out the back. Sometimes ending in a small filter sometimes not.

 

If going out to the air why the T in the line.

I think I am going to put on the thicker tubing get rid of the T and run it under the seat with a filter on it.

exactly what i did... put a small uni filter on it and hid it under the seat..

Finally I reviewed my new copy of the service manual and found that the tube is just strapped to the frame tube and left hanging at the factory. So simple I have trouble believing that Honda designed it.
