xr 400 fuel problems

Recommended Posts

I have an xr 400 that used to be running fine but hasn't been used in 3 years, Tried to get it going but there doesn't seem to be any fuel getting to the spark plug.    ANY SUGGESTIONS ?????

If you have no fuel getting to the plug, you have a blockage, either:

  • A blocked breather pipe in fuel cap will inhibit fuel coming out of tank.
  • A blocked fuel pipe from tank to carb.
  • More probable...your carb float is stuck closed so the needle valve remains seated, cutting off the fuel.

If you have ensured fuel is getting to the carb...it's time to get the carb off and investigate.  Hint...before you do this buy some allen-headed float bowl screws...makes it much easier.

I have just remembered there is a bloody brilliant youtube video on the subject, it is called 'XR400 Carb Tutorial'

Have fun!
