xr 400 fuel problems

If you have no fuel getting to the plug, you have a blockage, either:

  • A blocked breather pipe in fuel cap will inhibit fuel coming out of tank.
  • A blocked fuel pipe from tank to carb.
  • More probable...your carb float is stuck closed so the needle valve remains seated, cutting off the fuel.

If you have ensured fuel is getting to the carb...it's time to get the carb off and investigate.  Hint...before you do this buy some allen-headed float bowl screws...makes it much easier.

I have just remembered there is a bloody brilliant youtube video on the subject, it is called 'XR400 Carb Tutorial'

Have fun!
