White smoke at cold start

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My 2009 KTM 300 smokes excessively when cold. When riding smoke is minimal.

My spark plug electrode is black indicating air fuel mixture is rich (2 turns out). Could be piston and rings have expanded once warm so I need to do a compression test first as may require new top end ?

That plug is toast!

It's covered with deposits.

You need to pull the head and jug and take a look.

Have you recently cleaned your power valve?  It needs it I'll bet.

White smoke is oil. You probably need a new top end.

Air mixture screw is for idle only, nothing else.
