2002 cr250 gearing question

Recommended Posts

I have just picked up a 2002 cr250 and it needs a chain and sprocket among other things but my biggest question is gearing. It has 13/48 on it now. would it be better to go 14/51? I know that is basically the same ratio but would it be better for the bike? The bike will be used for mostly tracks with a bit of trails here and there. and nothing crazy on the tracks, i dont plan on racing anytime soon. I haven't riden in almost 4 years so i will just be out to have a good time.

Thanks

Jeff

I've found that 13/50 is a good ratio for the track and trails.

Seems to shift the powerband a little lower.

Less swing arm slider wear and less stress on the counter shaft bearing running a larger front sprocket. I've played with 12t sprockets on my cr250 and kdx220, I found the bikes wanted to loop out much easier, I looped the kdx trying to zap up a 2' log, lol, I'm sure with more hours using the low gearing id figure it out....
