Swapping a 'K' CDI Box onto an 'E' Model?

Recommended Posts

Greetings. I've been chasing other projects over the last few years (turbo Hayabusa, Urals, KLRs, SV650s, BMWs, etc..) but I've got a question that hopefully the the more DRZ-centric can answer for me.

I've got a 2000 'E' model that supposedly has a bad CDI box. My research says that my ('99 or '00) 'K' model box will work but may need some rewiring at the plug. Sounds like when I swapped the Hayabusa from '99 electronics to the '05 box and rotor.
Is this correct? If so, what's the rewiring required?

Here's the 'K' box...

Thanx,

E and K CDI, should need no changes to swap.. Only the S/SM and others.

And that box/ number above.. Not something normally seen on a DRZ400 CDI

That is most likely a aftermarket CDI.. so all bets are off as to if it will work or how.

Have a look at the CDI ID guide

All OEM CDIs are Mitsubishi brand and the ID numbers are in three separate lines stacked one on top another
