2011 DRZ400E Top End Ticking Noise with Video

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My bone stock drz400e has developed a ticking noise coming from the valve cover, the tick follows the revs (faster tick with more revs). Is this a normal noise or do I have a problem?

Here is a video of the noise.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

They do have noisy motors. If you decide to check the valve clearances, you should inspect the auto decompressor while you're in there. It has the big pin that presses down on the valve tappet, and there's a smaller pin on it that you should confirm is still in place.

Ive heard these bikes have noisy motors, Do you agree?

Not overly noisy but an alloy bash plate will amplify engine noise and make them sound worse than they really are.

Is this bad for your engine? My dizzer makes the same noise. Thanks

It's hard to hear it, but if the mechanism functions correctly it stops decompressing once the revs go up. The DRZ will start without this device, and many people remove it.

It's failed on some machines, so if you do your own valve checks, it's easy and important to also inspect the auto decompressor.
