Possible Air Leak Near Kick Start Lever - Question!

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

So I've had my 1997 YZ 125 for about 2 months now. When I first bought it I noticed what sounds like air escaping from where the kick start lever bolts on to the engine. When I rev the bike I hear a pppsssssshhhhhh. Sounds kinda like a turbo spooling up on a car. Not loud though. Performance has not been affected as the bike performs the same (actually better) than when I bought it. Although it is possible that performance has been affected and since this is my first 125 I do not have a baseline to compare it to. It has had this sound since I bought it.

I sprayed WD-40 near it and did not hear any increase in RPM. Maybe I'll try to spray carb cleaner near the area and see if that affects anything. The air is pushing out, not sucking in.

Is this a normal sound for a 125? Do I need to replace a seal? If so, which seal? Thanks!

Can you post a video? Spray it with soapy water do you see bubbles?

Yes I will post a vid later today when I'm done working.
