front brake rotor thickness

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I have my front rotor off so I can take it to work and straighten it on the marble table. My question is its stamped "min 2.5mm" which I'm guessing means the minimum thickness should be about .098, I'm at around .088. How critical would you guys hold to that tolerance? The reason I ask is because at the base where the pad doesn't rub it appears to only be around .095 so I wonder of it was ever above the limit. Does anyone have a new bike they could check for me?, my bike is an 09. If I couldn't get it straight I wanted to put it on the rotary grinder and make it true but not I'm scared to take any material off of it.

Thats very interesting that the part where the rotor does not touch is thinner than min tolerance.  Since it is well below tolerance and bent I would replace it.  Oversize braking kits have become reasonably priced, if that is an option. I noticed that they give you greater modulation than the smaller rotor.  Replacement rotors are also pretty reasonable.
