Gear size for trail riding

Recommended Posts

Hello All

Im setting up my 05 crf450 for trail riding and I would like some suggestions on what size tooth sprokets to use? I don't need as much top end speed as I do good climbing ability.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dante

Hello Guys

Thanks for the replys

I already have the Rekluse clutch which I love, but want a little more low end crawling capability. is the 14 tooth front sprocket standard on factory bikes?

I have been looking into the same...seems the general consensus is a flywheel weight (11oz) to help with stalling and 12 tooth front sprocket to slow it down a bit. Leave stock rear sprocket.

I have an 06 450R that I exclusively ride in the eastern woods, from north Georgia to West Virginia.  I run stock front and +2 rear and have had good results from that ratio.

I actually also have a 94 CR250 that I have run stock front and +2 rear on since 98 and have had no reason to change that ratio.
