New 300 XC-W - replace headlight with number plate

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have a new 300 XC-W coming and am not a fan of the headlight.

How hard is it to replace with a number plate?? What exact part should I get??

My guess is a need a number plate off an XC, but not sure how it would mount.

All help appreciated -Jim :ride:

I think you're right, just get an xc plate and I think they're cheap. It's super easy to remove, two rubber straps around the fork tubes.

A number plate is a number plate. SX, XC, theyre all the same. Simply disconnect the headlight and take it off and throw the new number plate on. It couldnt be simpler than it is.

Funny you post this... I just did this exact thing last night!!!  I will tell you one thing, the XC plate doesn't fit worth a crap!!!

You end up having to grind part of the top part to get it to fit.  It ends up the wiring harness going into the display is in the way of the top mounting bolt.  You can make it fit as I did but you end up grinding some  of the plastic off.....

Poor picture I took last night but you can see it on there.

If you take off your headlight and look where the wires are in relationship to the center mounting hole, it looks clear to mount a plate but the plate and a large round plastic part that fills that entire space and the wiring ends up being in the way.  You can grind off the left side (facing the bike) of the plastic part and get it to fit.  I also had to enlarge the hole on the number plate and use a washer on the bolt to get the holes to line up.

I chose to remove my headlight because #1: I never ride at night and #2 I didn't want to bash the light if I crashed on some rocks.
