why does my wr have no balls?

I have a 06 wr450 that seriously has no top end power, I have done all the derestriction stuff and just installed a jd jet kit thinking that might be the problem but it didn't really do much besides get rid of some top end surging I was experiencing. Basically in order to wheelie this thing in third I have to yank the hell out of the bars while clutching it. This wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't running 14-50 gearing. This thing should be a wheelie machine with that gearing. I've ridden a buddies 04 wr450 and it rips I can pull that up in 3rd no problem power or clutch. What gives? Why does my bike suck ass?

I should add I'm running 170 main 48 pilot blue needle at #4, no bogging surging etc

Fb ts anything like the wr250. And I mean if. Then, did you change it the fuel mixture screw? Removed the ais? Changed it the throttle stop screw? Cut any gray wires lately? As for the jd jetting, depending on your elevation you want to figure which one you want. But it's all I'm the instructions. My 250 took the red needle at 180 and I believe the needle is in the third position. Also, what about your exhaust, did you take the baffle thing a ma jig out? Again, not sure if it's like my bike and I don't have time to google yours, but a lot of the stuff I did to mine I think I watched some 450 vids as to know how to do it..

Hope this helps

A stock fully uncorked and correctly jetting '06 WR geared 14/50 will not wheelie in third gear, unless you weigh 150lbs.

When was the last time you did a top end and adjusted your valves?

I just picked up an 03 WR450. Its my first 4 stroke with knobies. My jetting is off and I think I'm burning a bit of oil. running 13/50 gearing.

My bike runs like crap and I can wheelie it in third. I am about 225 pounds with all my gear on.

I would think a half way well tuned 06 with that gearing should be able to get out of its own way.

BTW my 98CR500AF has stock gearing and a 1990 motor in it. If I move my butt to the back of the seat and wrap it, I can bring it up in 5th. Not bad for a 24 year old motor.

Just saying.......

I clutch up third no problem, '12 with 15/43 gears and motard wheels.  Can't seem to get it up in fourth on flat ground.

I built up a 97 KTM 620RXC to super moto specs. Can't remember what the gearing was but I know I had the biggest front sprocket I could physicly fit in there and the rear sprocket wasn't much bigger than the cush drive hub. Cruised nice at 65 MPH. not buzzy at all and I could eaisly get it up and third and with little work get it up in fourth. Never tried clutching it. Don't believe in it. If you have to clutch it your wife should be riding it.

If you want to laugh out loud in your helmet in the higher gears you need to get a 500+ KTM 4 poke or get something were you might have to premix your gas.

I'll stick with a Yamaha !

What the hell are you talking about and how does it relate to the posters comments

My buddies YZ450 is now whooping ass as in out powering a good rider on a KTM 690 in the open singles class in road racing.

I haven't had any problems whooping a 690 on the street with my built 450 either.

But getting back to the OP it may be a ripped ding a ling or accelerator pump diaphragm or other carb issue if not the top end.

Sorry.

Don't really know where I was going with that. Some post were talking displacement and gearing as far as getting the front wheel up. I just thru in what I've been riding.

I agree with you, I think the OP should be looking into the top end. If the jetting is in the ball park it seems he could just plain be down on compression. If the bike is runnig and starting halfway decent but just dosn't have the balls it should it's probably a compression problem.

I'm still in the process of sorting out my 03. It's been really frustrating. More so than any other bike I've wrenched on so I'm pretty bitter at the moment.

Sorry.

Sticking with Yamaha is smart. Anyone who has spent enough time in the KTM world has less hair on there head and money in there wallet than a Jap bike rider.

Been there done that.

My 01 wr426f is geared 14-50 and will pull wheelies in 3rd gear without clutch, and will pull them in 4th with clutch. And it's all stock, with the exception that it's been uncorked. And I'm 200 lbs.

I used to have an 06 wr450f that was just as powerful as this one.

However mine doesn't have much power in high Rpm's. My wheelies are always in the low to mid Rpm's.

I'd say if it's not your carb, it's either your stator, or your valves need adjusted.

And as far as not being helpful to the OP,

Kah Ran Nee.

Some just posted (Just got my first WR450-2005)

He had four or five legitament questions and all you did was bust his balls about the way he bound his bike on in the back of his pick up.

Real helpful.

I can't help until he gets specific about the state of tune of his bike.

" A JD kit and derestriction" is too vauge.

....and you are reffering to a different thread...

If teasing him about over strapping his bike upsets you, and not him, what does that say about you?

Your post on that other thread didn't upset me. not at all.

And its relavent to this post because you called me out on getting off topic and you were right and I apologized.

Just wonding why its fine if you do it.

And did you say "hey, give me some more info on how your bike is set up and maybe I can help you out"

NO.

Havn't been on this forum long but any post I see you respond to is usually is pretty condescending. Even more so than mine which is pretty bad.

And any knowledge you do choose to dispense is about as helpful as a hemorrhoid.
