Drz400sm vs xr650r. Not ur average question

Hello all. New guy here becoming a regular. My question is not ur average drz400sm vs xr650r thread, I know the xr is miles ahead. What I'm wondering is the street ability of the xr. I would like to eventually give the xr the supermoto treatment but I'd like it to handle well too, at least on the level of the drz400sm. Would this be fairly easy with USD fork swaps or something? I've watched some vids people have posted about altering suspension going horribly wrong and becoming unsafe. So in conclusion my primary concern is good handling as I love canyon carving, should I take the safe route (drz) or would I have no problem altering suspension on the Xr? Have people had good luck with altering Xr suspension before?

Yes, plenty of people have. There must be more than a dozen threads about it here on TT. Most commonly CRF250R/450R usd forks are used with a modified CRF triple. The stock shock is a good piece when re valved.
