Misaligned timing marks 2008 250 XCF

Recommended Posts

Went to do a standard scheduled maintenance checking my valve clearance. Popped the valve cover and went to set TDC using the marks on the cam gears before setting the lock bolt. Problem is they won't line up horizontal. Maybe 15 degrees difference between the two marks (maybe one or two teeth off). Thing is, the bike was running fine. Is this possible for the cam timming to be off like that and the bike running good? Do I just loosen the chain tensioner and line it up, then check my valve clearance. Should I make sure the positioning pins on the cam shafts are ok first? Trying to figure if this is common and something I can fix, or whether to take it to the shop. I'd rather fix it myself. See attached pic.

Some enduro bike run one tooth off compared to sxf to make them mellow , but the marks line up as they are made that way , if it had a sxf cam you would need to run it one tooth off
