Valve Guide XR250 1988 Sticking up

Recommended Posts

Hello, finally got round to stripping by engine to figure out why it uses tons of oil and stinks like a 2 stroke.

Rings and bore are good, bought new any way and had a hone.

Head gasket good, again replace with new.

Valve seals good, valve guides have almost no play, well within tolerance. Been checked by a machine shop.

Almost gave up when I noticed this (see picture).

One of my valve guide doesn't look like it's been pressed all the way in.

What do I do?

a. Replace the valve guide (hard to get parts in the UK). Any ideas why it would slip? Maybe it was never put in right.

b. Get it pushed in (can I do this at home, heat the head up maybe). If I get the shop to do it, do I insist they seal it somehow.

c. Ignore it, and assume the new rings and valve seals will fix my problem.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Just tried heating the head to 150 deg C and tapping it in but it wouldn't budge.

Any suggestions?

Not easy for me to take it to a shop without taking time off work.
