xr400 hot cam ?

Recommended Posts

so i just installed stage 2 hot cams in my 04 400, i just lined it all back up just like the stock ones were...

question is, i've since seen kits that come with a degree wheel and am wondering if i'm missing power by not degreeing the cams one way or the other?

can you not skip a tooth or two on the sprocket one way or the other?

Changing the degree of a cam can make more power @ high or low rpm like the exhaust port height on a 2stroke-you loose off the bottom to make it on top cheaper to do that with gears.Moving one tooth on the timing chain is usually around 10 degrees where you would be looking to move 5 degrees max. Stage 2 Hot cams are going to be tuned for getting the most out of stock displacement (lift, duration, and degree) making it pointless to mess with it. All in all if you're looking for more power consider a more powerful bike.
