Trip to CO, rejet FCR?

Recommended Posts

Gonna spend a week or more on trails in the CO mountains, mid-late Sep!  Current setup is:

440 kit

Yosh full exhaust

Hot Cams

FCR with following (kinda standard) settings for sea level.

slide needle: OCEMN, 3rd clip from top

Main jet: 160

slow/pilot jet: 42

slow/pilor air jet: 100

main air jet: 200

start/choke jet: 72

Bike currently runs spot-on from sea level up to 4k' (never had it above that).

I'm not concerned about absolutely performance, just don't want stuttering/plugfouling/hardstarting/missing while in the CO mountains (6-10k?).

Recommended jetting changes? Should I bother?

From personal experience, I would. I'm jetted for sea level. When I went to deals gap last year and rode into the mountains after about 8k 5th gear became all but unusable. Granted I'm geared for highway cruising, but I would suggest to do it. I couldn't imagine what a sea level jetted bike would run like at the top of copper mountain or in Vale.

I've had mine on Deals, no problem. FYI, the highest peak in TN and NC is around 6,500'. :)

But yea, if I can get a ballpark of what to do, I'll rejet.

Here Eddie recommends 142 main jet for similar circumstance :

There was a time when I could have the FCR out/in in 45 min. That was  a few years ago. :)

I just ordered a handful of main jets, and will try 142 first. Hope they're not too difficult to change in the field if needed!!

6 to 10 K...with 3x3 , open pipe,BB....I would suggest

145 main jet

OCEMR Needle, clip 3

45 pilot jet

1.75 turns fuel screw

For your current riding elevation I would use

155 main jet

OCEMP needle, clip 3

45 pilot jet

2. turns fuel acrew

With an Fcr main jet and needle can be swapped out with the carb installed....

MJ= Use a 6mm socket or jet tool via the 17 mm cap on the bottom of the bowl....http://www.jetsrus.com/individual_parts/mp_08_0023.html

Needle= via top of carb
