Leaky needle valve seat. Is it possible to fix this?

Recommended Posts

Hi I have an 83 XR200A which idles way too rich.  I can stop this by lowering the float 8mm further than what it is supposed to be (12.5mm.)

The needle is new, but I was not able to order a new seat.  I tried to polish it with Q-tips and toothpaste with no luck.

It runs fine the way it is though, with the float adjusted to 20+mm down instead of 12.5 does anybody think it is ok to run it like this?

Any advice on how to clean up the seat?

You can lap the seat with lapping paste and a cone shaped device

Can you see the damage?

It's possible it's the oring underneath it that's causing the damage

The seat can be removed, but it's tricky. You have to use a slide hammer

Ah thanks, I had no idea there was an o-ring under there, but I suppose it may just need it..

I'll see if I can get that thing out without damaging it.

Thanks.
