fork dust seals

Recommended Posts

The owners manual for my new to me '06 250xc says to remove the fork dust seals with a flat blade screwdriver after every ride and clean them.  I tried to use a small flat blade to do this and the dust seals did not come out much more than a millimeter with some force and I did not want to gouge them or the fork tube.  A couple of questions:  1 - Is this procedure necessary? 2 - Any suggestions on doing this?

Thanks,

Dan

Use a larger screwdriver. Tape the end with masking tape and wrap a rag around the chrome tube. Once you do it a couple times your confidence will increase. I only clean the wiper if I ride in muddy stuff. For dusty conditions just wash your bike after rides.
