Yamaha Let's see your Yamaha Warrior's.

Recommended Posts

I've seen DRZ threads, and YZ426F threads, etc. I figured since I'm new to the Warrior world it'd be nice to see some other ones.

Sorry for posting this multiple times. My Kindle likes to freeze and then spam whatever site I'm currently on.

Holy double post batman.  Anyways.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours :|  Bhaahah.

I just swooped on this last night.  So.  This kids grandpa bought this new. Rode it around the block a few times to show people. Then used it hunting once. There it sat in the garage for years.  The kids grandpa passed earlier this year and he got it.  Said he had a super hard time to get it to start but once it did, it ran great.

Well a few things.  he didn't know it was electric start. he didn't know it had a dead battery.  He didn't know it had a choke....  I trade an 85 DR250 in excellent shape for this quad.  You can tell its super low hours and grandpa owned.  Original paint, not worn off on frame or clutch/stator cover etc.  It maybe has 20 hours on the bike total since it was new.

I pulled the choke out and pulled the chord. Fired right up.  He was amazed    I think he didn't want it cuz it was so hard to start.  I need to lube the cables.. put fresh fluid in the brake lines, fresh oil in it etc...  But she runs and rips nice.  Will upgrade over winter time.  I wanted something I could ride on the trails and in the sand.  Perfect bike!  Plus now and then I can throw the lady on the back and cruise around the beach front (slowly, of course).

On with the pics....

Yeah, sorry about the extra 50 posts. Lol I would show you mine, but I haven't found out a way to get the pics onto my Kindle, the only way is to download them from FB and they end up looking really pixelated when I do that. It's just a pic of the frame and plastics all over the place because the motor is in my buddy's garage waiting for a rebuild. Nice quad though man, I'm guessing it's one of the first years they made them? I hope the build goes good for you. I'm hoping to do the same this winter if I can get a job by then.

Thanks man.  It's cool.

I pulled the bike apart tonight and cleaned the carb, and the pilot. Runs a bit better!  It's an 87 according to the vin.

Going to clean up the plastics a bit...  They seem to clean up well. Will hit with 300 grit and call it good enough on the plastics.  I'll replace later once other things are done.

Sweet man, post some pics when you get everything all cleaned up. The plastics look surprisingly good on mine. It looks like it's never been rolled, but I'm going to try to find some black plastics for it. I was thinking yours was an '87 or '88, mine is a '00.

87.  decoded the vin.  BUt when I look up parts theyre basically the same 87-04 from what I can tell.  Kind of nice, lots of parts and aftermarket support still.  F-yeah!  wish it was that way for dirt bikes...

They sell new plastics on RMATV in black.  There's parts located near me on CL but nothing in black.  I always hunt CL,  50 times a day at least for deals and shit.

Most of the parts I have found is on Motorcycle Superstore. They have a ton. When I looked up RMATVMC it didn't seem like they had as much. But if they have the black plastics that's where I'll be buying them from.

I know how it goes on craigslist, I'm addicted to that site. I have to buy a crank off of eBay to get mine running.

I have black rears that someone tried spray painting green. I started trying to clean them up and got most of the paint off. You need to watch with parts, 87-88 were there own style and some parts are impossible to find, like a arms and cdis. Parts like the carrier, sprocket hub, bumpers, a arms, headlights and hood are different. But just the bumpers and a arms can't be interchanged with second gens. Warriors are great and they've been made from model years 87- now

From what I was reading the A-arms were different.  But the rest is the same yeah? motor, axle etc? I was able to look at the part fisch and noticed some parts span across a lot of bikes.

I just looked up the rear axle for an 87 warrior and it is same part from 87 to 2004.  Even the 88 Banshee used it lol

Some before shots...  I have put in a &%$#@! ton of work, sanding, cleaning, flushing, tuning, rebuilding, more cleaning, filters, plug, etc etc... The plastics were stained. I couldn't wash it off. Not with anything. Purple power, degreaser, So... 320 grit....  Took me a few hours

Anyways.  Before shots.

Yeah. It was 4 hours worth of sanding alone.

Totally worth it. 8 hours of ripping it up at the dunes last monday!  she did great. Lot to be desired. Probably would have been better with some paddles.  But I need something with MOAR POWER.  :|  Going to keep this a bit and just use it, but I need something with more power.

PS.  that orange raptor has over 20k invested.  It's a mean mother &%$#@!er.

well...  you know how it works.  Play hard, work hard.

Took her out the other day and got on the shit.. hard!

Blew out the side of the muffler.  Blew out the spark arrestor.  Forgot to tighten the rear caliper when I bled the brakes, lost a bolt. Luckily had the yamaha tool kit! I just raised it up so it wasn't touching the disc. and wrenched it down.  The exhaust screws that hold the heat shield on... One came off! hahaha.  Rip and tear.  There was something else, too... I'm forgetting... what was it....  IDK..  I picked up some badass ITP sandstars with nice rims.  they were about 550 new. Stole em for 130!

So for the time being.  I will leave the S/A out.  I found a bolt that works in my bolts pile for the caliper.  I also found some new bolts for the heat shield.  So all is well and back together. I need to figure out the exhaust...  Needs replaced. and oh! That's what it was.. The roller for the chain blew out into pieces haha.  So I need a new roller for the chain

I also picked up another bike. IDK what I wanna do with it yet.  I may throw it up for sale or trade. IDK if i wanna deal with it.  86 LT250R.  Literally, a basket case. It's all there tho.  If someone wants it let me know, located NW oregon.  I will sell/trade it for warrior stuff or other bike related things.

That's my GF on the bike.  it was her first time riding a quad.  She did ok!

There's always something, isn't there? Lol I'm not in a rush to get my engine fixed because I have to buy a new chain and sprockets along with a battery before it's even rideable. I'm ready to ride it, but when you have no job to pay for the stuff it tends to take longer.

Just put you a new FMF system on there instead of repairing the muffler.

Wasn't even going to repair the muffler haha.  I will shove the spark arrestor back in it for woods riding. leave it out for the sand.

Just dropped a few bucks on it, again. I sold the LT250R for a few bones. Spent a chunk of it on parts today. Another gallon of oil.  New clutch, gasket. New lower chain roller by TM designworks.  Couple DC stickers, another new oil filter (may as well change the oil again.. I just wanna be sure it's all nice shit in there. I normally don't change oil this soon (it's only had one ride)).  Coupe other odds and ends.

Any of you cats going to be placing an order soon? I will have a 10% rocky mountain code by end of day. First to post wins it!  If not i will just post it in the RMATV code thread.

On a sad note.  One of my buddies got out.  He was an inside cat.  He snuck out and... well...  A car got him. RIP ricky bobby.

Getting some work done on the quad.

chain roller ate shit cuz I had two people on it at once. chain was to tight. ate it pretty quick. so installed a new one, also installed a new 12 tooth front sprocket. Brought it down from 13 so I'd have a little more torque in the sand.  Should still trail ride alright.  Installed a new clutch too.   Some other misc things...    Anyways.

Pics

Some random cat pics too. he's a retard.   I didn't get any pics of the install.  But, new clutch, gasket, new oil, everything is done on this quad except the exhaust. I want to find a different silencer.

I have some good news for my Warrior. My buddy ordered the crank for it and I asked him how much I owed and he told me he'd throw it in on the deal. So now all I need is a gasket kit, a chain, and a battery. My friend said it's gonna come together slow but it'll be right. I prefer that over getting it done in a week and having it blow up after just a few rides. In other news, I found a cinder block to use as a stand for my bike since my triangle stand broke and I've been cleaning my bike up these past few days since all I do is sit around all day anyways. Hopefully I'll get to ride my Warrior before I start hibernating and maybe I can get a job and license so I can buy a new bike and personalize it and the quad, maybe even the old KX.

Sweet man.  Just cuz you build a motor in a week doesn't mean it would be wrong.

I turn wrenches, a lot.  my girl friends car popped a head gasket.  Head bolt broke at the head when I went to re-torque it to get it home...  Then it got stuck in the head.  Anyways.  I looked around on craigs list and found another motor.  I went down on a saturday and picked it up.  10 hour drive there and back.  I built it from scratch on sunday.  Rings, bearings, crank, gaskets, timing gear, oil/gas pump, head, push rods, valves... The whole thing on a sunday.  Waited 3 days for a gasket from napa.  Threw the gasket on and she fired right up.  was tits!  Didn't need tuned or anything, it was already spot on.   40 mpg baby!  It's been a year and hasn't skipped a single beat (other than the exhaust rusting thru in one spot.  But nothing mechanical)

Build that thing!  PS, Post pics of the KX.  I love me some green machines...
