Oil circulation / return side

wondering why the return side does not start returning oil immediately ?      :confused:

If there is oil in the sump.......it should be returning oil to the frame downtube very quickly..but keep in mind it also feeds the transmission gears...

Think I figured it out .... on a cold start the return pump has lost its prime [ a air gap has developed in the pick-up "tube"  to supply the trochoid rotors] The motor then has to "wet sump" for a bit  to overcome the air gap . Then the pump plays catch up until the levels become right .

 

If the oil is checked during this equalizing period , you get low readings and then overfill conditions happen .

 

On initial start up I have watched the top tank go down to the point where you will not have a reading on the stick .

 

Any way best to check the oil at the end of each ride  :ride:
