Broke Camshaft Cap

Recommended Posts

Hi!

When i removed the cover today to check clearances i saw this;

How did that happen? Is it possible for a good welder to fix that or do i need a complete new top?

Its a 2013.

Best regards

I would say you over tightened the valve cover bolts to cause it to break like that.

You have to buy the whole head to get the valve cap.

You could possibly heliarc it by bolting it down to a piece of heavy flat stock.

If you don't bolt it to something solid you run the risk of warping it.

i don't think that will work !  but for my kxf it the previous owner that weld  this part .. and after 5 hour one valve become off spec and if i want it to work i had to let one bolt not complety in so it' did'nt work  that the reason why i had to bought a new head assembly !

I am not qualified to opine on this issue, other than to say it would make me unhappy to see that.  I know nothing about welding, except I have a buddy who is an expert who can do just about anything.  I will run this by him and see if he has any ideas.

If it were my bike I would bite the bullet an buy a new head.

I understand that is not an option for everyone.

Which is why i recommended bolting it to a flat surface and try to heili arc it.

You have nothing to loose since its already no good
