Compression Test - '06 RM250

Recommended Posts

Hi there.  I just ran a compression test on my failry newly acquired RM.  Cold Engine, throttle wide open.  Did 5 kicks and it registered a somewhat disappointing 170 psi.  I redid it with 8 kicks and got reading of 190 psi.  Repeated this twice.

I seem to recall my YZ250 registering a little over 200 psi with a new top end.  What do you guys think of the 190 number?

Oh yeah, it runs awesome, this test was out of curiousity to see where I'm at.

every compression tester is different

Very true...At least I am using the same tester that I previously used on my YZ, and it is stored carefully in its case and not dropped!  Ive got a set of rings and gaskets, so I'll probably go ahead and tear it apart in a week or so.  I'll report back the compression test number after that.

I run 94 and have ZERO detonation, head is shaved, cylinder is ported, ignition advanced 3 degrees......

Is the 3 degree advance to fight detonation? I seem to recall a timing thread that said something to that nature. Or is it retarding it? Damn, I'm old and confused.
