2006 KTM 525 exc to Dirt Tracker

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in converting KTM or another brand into a flat dirt tracker for racing. I have a 2006 KTM 525 exc and want to convert it this winter.

So I guess I am asking for a list of specs and parts I should begin to look for to do the conversion.

I know most of the conversion use R6 forks, R1 rear suspension, custom yokes, shortened swing arm, new wheels and dirt tires, etc.

Anyone have any experience with such a build?

I don't have specific experience with converting the KTM, but why can't it follow the usual DTX conversion path for amateur racing?

1. Shorten the stock suspension front and rear.

2. Move the rear 19" rim to the front wheel. (need new spokes)

3. Procure a 2.75" -3.0",19" rim and lace to the rear using original spokes.

4. DT tires

5. Rubber hose covers fit to the pegs.

6. Other goodies and changes as you grow in skill.

It is for the most part much less expensive to buy a converted DTX bike than to build one. If you go this route, look for a suspension set up by a DTX suspension guru, Like Durelle or Wood.
