Chain/sprocket suggestions

I'm replacing my chain and sprockets and I was wondering if anyone had some recommendations on chain style (ie. O-ring) and gear ratio. I do almost all off road/desert riding and very little track riding.

I can say without a doubt that an Ironman rear sprocket, while expensive up front, will save you money in the long run, as they last so long.  The downside is that you need to know what gearing you want, as buying the wrong size would be an expensive mistake.

 

Unless you are on a small-bore bike, a ring chain (O,X, W) is going to be a better choice.  They last much longer and need very little in the way of maintenance, especially in dry conditions.  Always buy extra master links to match the chain, as they differ among brands and models, and the master link tends to wear faster due to its additional width.

 

To experiment with different gearing, just buy the cheapest chain and steel sprockets you can find.  Once you settle on a ratio, then buy a quality set.
