'15 250 Gearing

Recommended Posts

I noticed this morning that the 2015 Yz250s have went to 13 front and a 52 rear. Instead of a 14 front and 50 rear.

I'm currently running on my bikes a 14/51. I guess I'll have to give the new gearing a try. I wonder if MXA will still suggest to ad a tooth to the rear?

13/52 is pretty extreme (final drive ratio of 4), but it will let you pull the higher gears more often, less shifting, and squirt you out of corners. It also allows the bike to be shorter overall, making it more wheelie prone.

I run 13/49 (off road), and it's just about the right balance between speed and low gear grunt to get up steep climbs.

Now scroll down to the text. See where the part numbered 13t item is? You'll notice an "AP" next to the 13t, that stands for "alternate part". Now look right below that at the 14t and you'll see "std" next to it. This stands for "standard", which is what the bike comes with from the factory. The 13t "alternate part" is just that, one that you can change to from the standard 14t.
