Stock exhaust

So I'm looking to make my 13 450sx-f breath/sound a little better on a budget. I've read about removing the baffling and remapping. Is this actually a good idea and what does remapping consist of?

Thanks.

leave it alone.

You of coarse are skilled enough to use all the power available of the 450 at any moment.(LOL)

The manufacturer has left at least 10 HP on the table in a competitive market.(LOL)

And why would you want to piss people off with a louder system? (LOL)

Why dont you just cut the piece off and run a strait pipe?   That would work!   LOL

Sorry, I misunderstood, you might try another sponsor that would step you up to a newer bike and purchase you a pipe. Just responding with logic, nothing personal. Chances are that a garage removal or modification to the stock system will have more of a negative effect then positive or the manuf. wouldn't have put it there in the first place. You do realize the factories optimize the systems as much as possible to acquire the best overall performance. but I'm sure with your experience and riding skills you far exceed the majority of the riders, that race and ride big bores. So you imply.

Think you said do it on the cheap, leave it stock and become a faster rider, how much cheaper is that?

Remove the baffle and put on a Pro Moto Billet tip for $120. Its a FI bike so you dont need to remap anything. Your good to go and its NOT as loud as you might think but will kick up the ponies.

I wasn't meaning to sound like a jerk so no offense taken. Sorry if I offended you.

Thanks for the advise. Will look into it.

so did you dyno the actual results, bet the factory would just love to bolt on more ponnies on their bike. Really! Seems like they would have that on all their bikes if it was true or that easy! Yes sir bolt on power!   LOL They could fire all their engineers and replace them with the guys at Pro Moto Billet. Oh I forgot Billet is always better and more performance! LOL Wonder why all the other bike companies haven't contacted them, for their bolt on performance enhancer? Pick up some ponnies!  LOL.

Oh man.....your dead on. Why would anybody ever change out a stock exhaust? I honestly don't know how all these after market exhaust companies do it???

Note sarcasm.....

It's fact. My Berg ran hot until I made the swap to the PMB. Then I wanted to shave weight and quite the bike a little and went to the FMF Q. Same performance as with the PMB but quiter and shaved a a lot of pounds over the stock potato cannon....

So please note your scientific data on temp reduction as well as your avg lap times due to the extra ponies, as well as your additional weight loss, wow maybe a couple pounds, sounds like you are readyt o challenge the top works riders, good luck! now the day your bike ran hot, you duplicated the speeds, outdoor tempertures of the environment. And you are such a skilled rider you can actually run Identicle laps long enough to identify a true performance difference, Oh yes extra ponnies as you claim are caused by the burning of additional fuel/ air mixtures, which buy the way is heat generation which you are saying cooled your bikes thermal output. And of coarse you have an acoustic test cell and equipment to take actual db test results at all RPM levels as well. Yes I have read all the claims by the after market companies. I am also aware of true side by side testing same day, same dyno, yep Brand x 2 hp more then stock, yep between 3400 3600 Rpm, but loses elsewhere, guess that might make a difference if you only rode 3400 3600 all the time. LOL. Yes sir and that weight loss thing is magic, of coarse fuel weighs 6, 7 lbs per gallon, so you become Ryan Vilapoto on a half a tank, Yes sir and KTM added weight with electricstart and fuel injection, and they of coarse are losing all the races now.

And my 50 years of racing and riding as well as 60 MC in my life I have not tried these things! But, I do notice the importance today to have the correct brands and bling on your bikes to be considered relivent. A brand x aft er market pipe never won a race for me, my TT bikes although very lite and far more advanced in design then may others never won a race for me, I usually was a better or worse rider based on my skills or lack of skills. But of coarse if I have a brand x pipe today, I must be fast!   LOL

Last race 1 year ago, 2nd place vets A at the age of 59. son races as well.  The more ponies comment is commicle, More HP equals more heat, Laws of physics, guess those boys at Bling Plus are Physisisits. Heard KTM /Honda/Kawi/ suzuki all want to hire them, more ponies, less heat, and a bolt on to boot!  LOL

My intent here is not to bash individuals, my intent is to educate the many today that fall for the commercialism in our sport, spouting exagurrated claims of performance gains or results with the blaring omission of facts that are crucial to the OVERALL performance of the MC. Pipe manufacturers are usually the most blatant. Yes, you gain in one area but lose in others, just so happens they don't promote that aspect or result of their product. Opps we forgot to mention that! After they have taken your money!  LOL. But lighter, shinny, because we all know that is better!  LOL. Do you really believe joe weekend warrior would tell someone that he was so stupid to buy a $900 dollar system and he still couldn't ride worth shit, Of coarse not. But he has "THE PIPE", LOL.

So when the individual asks me today what I recommend today, I respond, save your money practice, practice, train, and spend some of that hard earned money with some pro lessons. You will see a better return on your investment then any mod or product you could ever BOLT ON. Bet that is the best option to all of us here. Just 50 yrs of racing riding experience talking, See, I was a sponsored racer at one time and would use anything that had little of a negative impact on my performance, but provided me free shit to support my racing.

Got a chance to ride a 450 husaberg a while back, nice bike, hope you enjoy!

its okay to spend money on shiny neat stuff.  if it wasnt, we'd all be riding late 90's 2 strokes and thumpertalk would not exist...maybe this forum would be called smokertalk instead...

we'd also still be rocking CRT TVs instead of flat panels...wait a minute, i did just replace the bulb in my 1080p DLP projection TV because i didnt fall for the marketing gimmick that a flat panel would improve my performance as a couch potato.  i also opted out of an HDTV subscription because my favorite movies of all time were filmed in an SD error.

my point...its okay to have a personal position on non performance related stuff, but who cares how somebody else elects to spend THEIR money on something vanity related like a "better sounding" exhaust, a more optioned car, a thinner TV, or a bigger house?
