97' cr250 trans problems. helpppppppp

Recommended Posts

so here my problem. i have this 97 cr 250 had trans probs when i bought it. ended up just needing a left case half, so i replaced it with a 97 case half. knowing the cases where a tad bit diffrent. i put it back together after inspecting the trans gears, making sure all the washers and what not where in the correct spots. turns out that when the trans gears are in the left case half, with everything in place ( shift drum, shift forks) the gears lock them self in diffrent gears but are free in other gears. so i thought i might be and location problem. not the case, the gears try to lock in pretty much all spots in all gears but will free themsleves sometimes if i turn the shaft the oppostie way . im stumped any advise i thank you for .

You should put all the gears and washers in place on the shafts.

Set shafts in the case then put shift forks in the gears and install the shafts for the shift forks.

At this point you can check to make sure it all turns and shifts correctly. Playing with it a bit will help it all fall in to place.
