phosphoric acid to remove rust

Recommended Posts

i came across a thread on how to use a phosphoric acid bath to remove rust from parts but now i cant find it again. It may have been on another site. any one know the procedure or concentration to use? i have some rusted parts on a bike that i would like to clean up.

Yes, phosporic acid is very good @ cleaning rust from steel....about 10%/vol. . Naval Jelly (phosphoric acid based) will work well too (get it @ Walmart).

Go load up on Vinegar..I have had really good results with it and it is cheap and safe. I have also had good results with "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner or CLR. be careful with the works or clr. If you are doing say a metal gas tank make sure you take the petcock off because they will eat through that material. Trust me the 3 I mention will work well for you as they all three have for me
