Riding the Carolinas

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if someone on here could describe the soil consistancy and terrain in the Carolinas from region to region or if it's pretty consistant. Sandy? Muddy? Does it hold moisture, how rocky? I'm from Western PA and only rode NC once, that was at CAW.

Thank you all.

Take a look at this map of NC.  The coastal region will contain a lot of sand, increasing in % of the soil as you get closer to the actual coast.  The western or mountin end will tend to be rocky.  The central or Piedmont region will have be more rocky on the western side but will have a larger percentage of clay thoughout.  Haven't really ridden down there much but SC is pretty much the same way I believe.

FYI Brown Mtn closes at the end of this month.  Check out Brushy Mountain Motorsports Park.  Over 75 miles of trails, all directional and SxS & quads are only allowed on a few trails.  $25 a day and I think you can still camp for $5 a night, only open on weekends though.
