Rebuild suggestions

Recommended Posts

Long story shortened, my son blew up his 06 kx450f. Bottom end and crank is fine. Piston seized in cyl, replacing those. May have to replace head if measurements are bad, haven't got to that yet. Will a used 07 or 08 complete head bolt right up if the 06 is junk? Thanks.

I don't think I have ever seen a 4 stroke seize the piston to the cylinder without a lack of oil problem.  Which tells me if you truly have a seized piston you also have other major issues.

Most cylinder heads are rebuild-able short of a meltdown, which you may have had due to lack of oil.

The part numbers are different on the cylinder heads you mentioned.  I don't remember if they may be interchangeable.

I'm sure you don't want to hear this... If it were mine I would replace the crank big end bearing, main bearings, input and output tranny bearings, clutch basket bushing, along with a thorough cylinder head inspection of cam and journals, and of course all visually impacted parts.
