Jetting 540 With 41 mm Carb for Snowbiking

Recommended Posts

I have a freshly built 540 and recently purchased a 41 mm carb off of a 2011 SXF. Started with 185 main, JD red 4th position and a 42 pilot. Starts great and ran fine first time out between 5000-6000 feet. Wondering if I am likely to rich on the main? Bike will be running from 4-8000 feet. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'd bet you'd was something more like a 165 but, it has a lot to do with the size of the airbox opening. Jetting is not a strict 'CarbXBarrel' calculation. Cams, airbox, pipe also vary it. Changing a main is a simple thing to do and you will not hurt things (unlike a 2S) if you are too lean. Keep in mind, to test, you have to be under load, 7/8ths to WOT in 4th or 5th gear. Not accelerating but simply ripping.
