Put new clutch plates and steel plates on my xl100 . Now the clutch feels so tight feels like something is about to break any tips or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

the head of the bolt can snap off while your tightening it. that's what hapend to me

You can't tighten the springs too tight because the retainers bottom out on the clutch hub threaded bosses, but you can over tighten the bolt that retains them and snap the head.

+3,  snapped one using a nutdriver that I selected so I wouldn't snap one ?

1979 honda xl100 new friction and steel plates . Clutch adjusted all the way out. Pull clutch lever nothing happens inside engine. Any help would b greatly appreciated!!!

There is a little free play at the lever?

Right number of steel and fiber plates removed and reinstalled?

OEM plates installed, thickness measured?

Basket and hub not notched?

All parts there (included the ball bearing)for the push rod?

Excessive notching and wear.  The plates must be allowed to move/slide on the fingers of the basket and the hub. Too much wear or "notching" won't allow them to slide freely causing them to hang up resulting in chattering clutch action, inconsistent clutch feel, dis-engagement problems and even a difficult lever pull in extreme cases.

 

Do you have a service manual, I am guessing not.  Time for one of these with all the new threads you start. We like to help here but you really need to educate yourself on your own bike.  Diagnosis through the internet is shoddy at best.

Ok so my clutch basket is wore out looks like it has been filed down a couple times .should I replace the basket,pressure plate , and center?

Idealy yes if it has been filed at least once, now if the bike is worth putting that much money into well that is up to you.
