2002 CR250 Total Refresh

Recommended Posts

Considering doing a total refresh for my 02 CR250. The bike is 12 years old at this point.

I just wanted some input on what I've priced out so far.

Ok! So I need a new top end. Getting my cylinder replated at Millenium. Purchasing OEM piston, wrist pin, bearing, clips.

Purchasing bearings for the bike. (steering head, both wheels, shock, linkage, swingarm.)

Purchasing fork rebuild kit + tools to do it the CORRECT way + oil.

purchasing shock rebuild kit w/ shock spanner wrench.

Purchasing OEM radiator shrouds for a fresh look.

Replacing my cracked clutch cover with a boyeson clutch cover.

Purchasing new brake pads + changing brake fluid + installing steel lines

Didn't include it in the cart, but new sprockets and chain.

TOTAL PRICE ~$1000.

Questions:

Is there ANYTHING unreasonable or not needed for a genuine refresh here?

Is there ANYTHING I forgot to include for a refresh here? (clutch and bottom end in the motor are fine.)

Is this PRICE reasonable? Can I save money somewhere else? (motosport.com) I was going to use their price match guarantee and get them to match prices from partzilla.

Any advice you want to give me? This is a big purchase.

Honda East Toledo has some of the best prices I have seen on oem honda parts.

The fork seal kit....stick with oem. Its very good quality for cheaper than the pivotworks kit. Get some fork seal grease. Pro circuit, race tech both offer it and it really helps the seals.

Fork oil...In my experience, the bel ray fork oil has always seemed mediocre. I like the maxima racing fork oil. You will need 2 quarts.

You don't necessarily need the fork seal bullets. A plastic bag with a little fork oil or seal grease works well too. Will it be easier using the fork seal bullets. .probably, but not required.

Exhaust joint...is that the piece that connects the exhaust pipe to the cylinder head? If so, get the pro circuit or boyesen version. Its a lot more robust.

Radiator shrouds....unless you are dead set on the oem ones, you can probably get some from Acerbis or some other company cheaper.

Send your cylinder to US Chrome instead of Millenium. Millenium is run by former US Chrome employees who poorly copied their formula and opened shop down the street. I have heard of multiple people having problems with their Millenium cylinders, but to this day haven't heard of any problems with US Chrome. Dish out the extra $20- it will be worth it.

DSCF12521.JPGDSCF12521.JPGdidn't try to put 2 pics crack is at top of bridge, look very close at the exhaust port bridge in the cylinder & make sure its not cracked, I also own an 02 they are known to crack. for an extra bit of $$ u can get a new cylinder & it comes with power valve installed. I think I paid 369.00 for mine last year @dallas Honda. I would replace the crank seals witch can be done externally, you need a flywheel puller to change seals, 15.00 @ motosport.

how do you like that 02,I think they are one of the best cr250's, handling is awesome feels light. good luck with your build
