Maintenance Stand

Recommended Posts

I am looking at getting a maintenence stand for my SM. I am used to having sport bikes so I have only ever owned pit bull stands. Well I don't have those any more and I am not to knowledgeable on MX stands. I basically need it to take of the wheels, steer stem lube, oil changes etc. Also the bigger factor is cost. I've got to clear it through the boss! I have a local cycle gear, harbor freight as well as several stealerships. Anyone got any suggestions or input? Was looking at these-

None of those would be real convenient for oil changes, although you can always just use the kickstand. I have a HF jack that works fabulous. $99. Great for tire changing, fork and rear suspension work. I use it for all kinds of stuff: working on my mc trailer, installing Class III hitch on my pick-up...

Also have a rear stand I use for oil changes and chain lubing. Also purchased at Harbor Freight. It is cheap and flimsy, but does the job.

Yeah after I posted it I realized the last oil change I did I put the bike on a milk crate and obviously couldn't do anything so the bike went on the kickstand. I will definitely have to convince the wife to let me spend a 100bucks on that lift stand! I know you get what you pay for!

I also have the harbor freight one and it works great. I have had one with a lever style lift and it sucked. Was too difficult to lift the pig up. I also made one and again lifting the bike on and off was a pain. Now I can just pump it up strap it to the lift itself. Wheel it around if I need to while it is all taken apart.

Well I made one since I had some extra wood around. I will tell you that I agree with most of you lifting this thing off the stand is a pain in the arse! I will be looking at getting a lift one! And with 3 kids birthdays just days away and recoving from Xmas, I think I would be dead if I bought one then asked for forgiveness!

Yeah, I had one of those for a while. Great thing about it is you can throw it in your truck and use it at the trailhead. So... you really need three (3) stands, the HF jack, rear wheel stand and the cheap portable stand listed above.

This will make your wife really happy as this stuff takes up even more valuable real estate in the garage.

This works for me.   http://www.harborfreight.com/dirt-bike-stand-67151.html

It is a bit to get it up there the first time.

Cut a 20% off coupon out of a HF circular and it will cost you $23.99. If it is to high for you cut it down a bit and if you hate it take it back or use it as a steeping stool. It does have a hole in it for oil changes but I haven't tried that yet.
