Best snorkel modification

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have full aftermarket exaust (Arrow), removed backfire screen and EJK stage 1. I removed snorkel but, as Rick Ramsey said, "Low-end torque was reduced a bit" while High-speed response was excellent.

So Rick reinstalled airbox snorkel  but half cut off from the down-spout section in the airbox. Unfortunately Rick didn't posted a shot

Has anyone  a similar experience and can suggest me how to modify the snorkel?

Thanks for your help

All you need to do is remove it.  It pulls right out and you can put it back in if you want to someday.

Some have cut the whole bigger while others have installed a velocity stack of sorts ...

Thanks,

I drived CRF another time without snorkel and I'm sure of reduced torque at low-end with an excellent response at hight RPM

I'm waiting for a DNA filter, so I'd try to cut snorkel step by step, beginnig by cutting half from the down-spout. For me it does't matter for the loud but it's important the response at low and mid range

Snorkel has an important function in intake air flow, especialy in single cylinder, where air flow stop and go every cycle, so I think that it is not simple to find the correct accord of air resonance. Engineers has to hachieve a compromise between noise and performance. May be that for performance it's enough the outer part of snorkel but I'm not sure

This is my creation, i am much happier with it than the holes i had in the side cover, works really well and a heap quieter since i removed the paper filter and put in a 2 stage Uni foam filter.

Formed 100mm x 50mm plastic down pipe fixture with a heat gun and wooden shaped block then scribed the inside.

Then used a die grinder to cut out shape

Glued on snorkel using marine grade silicone compound that withstands vibration.

Put in a foam Uni filter which reduced the noise level dramatically.

How is the low end with this setup?

Interesting.

Yeah not too bad i'm really happy with it, i dont think i lost anything in the bottom end compared with having 5 holes drilled in the side cover and snorkle removed. probably could of made it a fraction smaller without any performance hit. I did a couple hundred km's on some really dry and dusty trails last week and i was really surprised by the small amount of dust particles that was left in the airbox and filter. I am running a yoshi full exhaust, EJK and a 14/42 which i feel is perfect after playing around with the usual combo's.
