Crankshaft hole cover allen size ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was trying to remove the crankshaft hole cover to get top dead center ( valve clearance). I tried to use a 10mm allen wrench, seem to have a little play and started to  chew up the hole socket under pressure. Is it the right size ?? is there a way to remove the cover if the socket is chewed up. Thx

I had the same problem with mine.

First, order a plug/cover; It's under $10.

Second, DO NOT use an impact driver. It will punch right through, and you have to pull the clutch cover to get all the pieces out.

You can try grinding down your Allen bit to make a nice sharp edge. Or, if it's already chewed up to hell, you can try using a large flathead screwdriver in there. You may need to notch it with a Dremel or use an easy-out if it's really bad.

Key to keeping it from sticking in the first place is greasing the threads and proper torque.
