How to change the oil on CRF 230/150?

Hey everyone, I am aware this could be a pretty dumb question and all, but when you change the oil on your CRF, you put oil in it till its at the full mark and thats it OR

do you put oil in it then let it warm up so the oil runs around and then check it and you will notice that the dipstick oil level will be low since all the oil ran around do you put more in so its at the full mark? I know you never want to overfill your oil so this is something i just want to be sure and not screw up.

So whats the proper oil change?

Thanks for your input!

Per the Owner's Manual:

  1. Park your motorcycle on a firm, level surface.
  2. Clean around the oil filler cap/dipstick and nearby surfaces.
  3. Start the engine and let it idle for 3-5 minutes. Stop the engine. Wait 2-3 minutes.
  4. Immediately unscrew and remove the oil filler cap/dipstick. Wipe it clean.
  5. Hold the motorcycle upright.
  6. Insert the dipstick until it seats, but do not screw it in.
  7. Remove the dipstick and check the oil level.
If the oil is at or near the upper level mark, you do not have to add oil.
If the oil is below or near the lower level mark, add the recommended oil until it reaches the upper level mark. (Do not overfill.)
  8. Insert the dipstick and screw it in tightly.
  9. Check for oil leaks.

Always happy to be of help.

In simple terms dump a quart in a your good to go.

Thanks guys !

It's important to note that it says to park the bike on a "level surface", not on a bike stand.  You want the bike sitting on the ground to get an accurate measurement, not teetering on a stand.

Add Amsoil 10w40 dirt bike oil.
