Advice about the main jet baffle on the 230l/m

Changing the main jet but there is a white plastic baffle around it.

 

Is this baffle necessary?

Absolutely.  It keeps fuel from sloshing away from the main jet.

 

If you are having difficulty keeping it in place use some SS safety wire wrapped around the top fingers to keep it in place.  Kind of like a twist tie.  Be sure the twist is not too big and does not interfere with the float!  I usually position my twists right below the pilot jet.

 

You've got the wrong type of main jet in there.  I advise you get a proper main.

Got it back on. Realized the carb has to be upside down to install float parts easily.

 

It's the 230m but the l and m engine and carb are identical.

 

I really need to remove all the EPA stuff but not sure what the jetting should be.

 

I'll try and do search to find out.
