Washington New trails opening Friday, May 1st at Jones Creek (WA).

Recommended Posts

The ATV and Dirt Bike trails at Jones Creek open for the Summer season tomorrow, Friday May 1st for the 2015 Summer season.

As you ride Jones Creek this season you may notice a few new additions to the trail system.

First, the DNR has decided to re-name all the OHV trails in the Jones Creek system and has created a new map to help riders learn the new names. The map will be posted on the reader board at Jones Creek, but you may find it more beneficial to download a copy for yourself from the DNR's website listed as "Yacolt Burn Motorized Trails" at the following link:

The map can be downloaded in .pdf format.

Second will will notice that there are some new trails on the landscape. JCTRA volunteers worked hard in cooperation with the DNR last Summer and earlier this Spring to create a new ATV oriented trail and a new motorcycle only trail.

You will see these two new trails on the map.

The new ATV oriented trail was opened for public use last Fall and is the section of the "Jones Creek Trail" adjacent to the "Baz Trail".

The "Motorcycle Only" trail has been named the "Cougar Ridge Trail" and the trail isopen for public use as of Friday, May 1st along with all the other ATV and dirt bike trails. The Cougar Ridge Trail is made for motorcycles only and there are bollards and other barricades in place to discourage ATV or wider vehicle use on this section of trail. We ask that you respect this restriction as it is our goal that as we increase ATV width trails in the area, we will also bring back some of the long lost "Motorcycle Only" trails that Jones Creek used to have so many of.

While JCTRA was hard at work building ATV and Motorcycle trails, the volunteers of Pistons Wild Motorsports were also hard at work building several miles of new 4x4 trails. These trails will be opened to the public on Saturday, May 2nd as part of the annual Pick Up the Burn (PUB) event. The 4x4 trails are listed on the map as the "Mountain View" "Hagen Creek" and "Deer Pen" trails. These new 4x4 trails are open to 4x4's and also to Side X Sides, ATV's, and  dirt bikes.

These new trails are just the beginning of the new motorized trails that are to be implemented as part of the Yacolt Burn State Forest Recreation plan. Many miles of ATV, Motorcycle Only, and 4x4 trails are scheduled to be built for years to come.

JCTRA would like to hear what you have to say about the new ATV and Motorcycle Only trails. Please keep in mind that JCTRA is working in cooperation with the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the land managers to build these trails. We are required to build them to the specifications that the DNR requires. Those specifications may be guided by county permitting requirements and/or DNR agency policies. At this point JCTRA is happy to get new trails on the ground, however as we build more trails for the future we feel that it is important that we bring feedback from the public to the DNR so that we may build the quality of trails that the public desires.

With that in mind I encourage you to provide feedback (positive or negative) to the following email address:

Last but not least this coming Saturday, May 2nd is the annual Pick Up the Burn event being held at the Jones Creek staging area beginning art 8:30 AM on Saturday. The focus of this event is to get out there and pickup the littler and other debris left in the forest over the Winter and get the area cleaned up for the Summer season.

Congrats to everyone down there.   It is always a pleasure to hear an area growing instead of being in jeopardy.
