Dot 3 or 4 brake fluid

I have a klx300 says either dot 3 or 4 brake fluid, which is better?? Also can they be mixed?

DOT 3 and DOT 4 fluids can be mixed without issue. All that will happen is the DOT 4 fluid characteristics will be diluted with the addition of the DOT 3. Both fluids are glycol based and will not react with each other.

The types you don't want to mix are DOT 3/4 with DOT 5 or 5.1. DOT 5/5.1 also don't mix.

DOT 5 is silicone based and doesn't absorb water like glycol, but aerates very easily. Can't remember what 5.1 is made from.
