2012 KTM 250 SXF, $2499?!?!?!?!

So just looking around at some local dealers because I've been in the market for a new bike and I found a 2012 KTM 250 SXF for $2499!!!! I gotta believe there must be something wrong with it at that price, but still? Does anyone know anyhing about this bike? Is it a good bike? I know KTM in general has a pretty good rep but I'd like to know more about them before I jump on something. Any info, opinions, thoughts on this bike are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Obviously there's something wrong with the bike.  That bike should be priced around $4000.  Unfortunately that bike has an outdated engine design in it.  The KTM 250F's got a massive engine upgrade for 2013 which put them in-line with the 350's.  (2013+ they both share engine design)

I agree with motonack.....$2500 is too cheap for that bike in good condition.

The 350's got the big engine re-design in 2012.....the 250's got the same basic re-design in 2013....try and find a 2013.

Personally I'd rather pay more for a good bike....and do lots of riding, than find a "deal" on a crappy bike....and do lots of repairing.....which will only cost you the money you supposedly "saved" with your "deal".  Not to mention the frustration and missed rides!!

The 350 got introduced for the 2011 model year and remained nearly unchanged for 2012.  Both the 250 and 350 got massive engine upgrades for 2013.

FROM MOTONACK:

"The 350 got introduced for the 2011 model year and remained nearly unchanged for 2012. Both the 250

and 350 got massive engine upgrades for 2013."

I believe the above statement is incorrect.....

I ride a 2012 350 XCF-W....the guy I ride with rides a 2013 350 XCF-W....they are virtually identical machines. The 350 was re-done

in 2012....and remained virtually untouched in 2013. The 250 on the other hand, did have a major re-design in 2013.

This article from Dirt Rider magazine clearly states that it was only the 250 XCF-W that got a redesign in 2013....NOT the 350.

"Enduro line up continues many of the improvements debuted on 2012 models."

I may be wrong....but I believe that 2012 not 2011, was in fact the first year of the 350 XCF-W as it exists today.

The sxf was as the previous post says 11 and 12 the same then revised for 13 ,the off road models were often later by a year

thanks everyone for the great info! Bought the bike it is in need of some TLC astetically (scratches, ripped graphics, etc.) but the motor has been well taken care of and it runs great!

Youre talking about apples to oranges. This guy bought an SXF. The SXF/XCF lines are always a year ahead on updates compared to the XCWs. All the XCWs still used the previous generation chassis for 2011. A 2012 350XCFW is all new because that model did not exist for the 2011 model year. The 350SXF/XCF got massive engine upgrades as well as restyled plastics for 2013. The XCW version didnt see those updates until the 2014 model year.

You are quite correct....I got sidetracked onto the XCF-W model.....no doubt 'cause that's what I ride. The OP was referring to the SXF model which has exactly the history you indicated.

Sorry...can't use the "Quote" function here 'cause I had to install Linux as the OS on this computer (sad story) and I loose acess to certain functionality it seems.
