Yz250 triple clamps

Recommended Posts

Hi, im hoping someone can help me out here. I have a 2006 yz250 and was wondering if a set of either 11-13 or 2014+ yz250f triple clamps would fit on it. I like how the new yzf clamps have adjustable bar mount positions and would like to have that feature on my yz250. I can find a set of oem yzf clamps way cheaper than an aftermarket adjustable set for a yz250. Any help will be appreciated

These 4 strokes triples are 22.5mm offset:

2010+ YZ450F

2012+ YZ250F.

All those clamps use a 54.0mm upper clamp diam.

I had the upper clamp bored out to 56.0mm and no problem.

The 250F stem is too short. So press in your stem post.

The 450F stem is just long enough for the 2004 steel frame. Maybe too short for the 2005+ alum 2S frame.

You must have top and bottom clamps as a set. Same offset.

So then 2010+ 450F triples and forks work in the steel frame? Now, this would mean a complete front end swap (triple, hub, axle, brake) would be feasable? Also, that would mean steel frame 04 down to ? 99, or 00?

Yes, they bolt straight up. I have 2011 triples in my 2004 frame.

Yes, if you bring everything over. Then you would have 54.0mm fork tube uppers and no need to bore the top clamp out to 56. Of cource the springs and valving will be totally wrong for the 2 stroke. Be sure to check the fully extended fork length difference and set the fork cap height to compensate.

That I don't know. I don't know the head tube lengths. You're the man to answer that question! I'd guess 99.5% chance that 99 to 04 steel frame head tubes are the same length. Yam have not changed the bearings for decades. Edited by numroe

Yes, all steel frames from 00 to 04 are the same in the head tube, this I know for sure. 99 I have never had in the shop, but would venture to say yes, because the frames are identical (I believe) from 99-01 and 02-04 (99-04 head tube bearings).

So thank you for that cross reference.

I am not much of a frankinbiike guy.

I do know motors, bikes, etc. but the cross overs to other parts, models and years is all up to those that have gone before me. And I never stop learning.

I am now trying to learn suspension rebuilds as I have been sourcing that to ENZO but 340 bucks both sides is getting spendy on my restoration projects.

You would have to take the top clamps to a machinist and get them bored 2mm larger in diameter. A couple guys have done that on here.

Can you use the YZ250 bottom clamp then? Just get the four stroke top clamp, have it bore and that would be it fine?

steel frame has different stop positions on the frame as well. I put some 22mm offset clamps on my 05 and had to weld on new stops to the lowers. if you just remove them they would allow the forks to crush the cdi.The later 22.5mm clamps will also effect the handling not just bar position. I took the 22mm back off mine, different but not an improvement for me. Been a few magazine tests were they have also concluded that the std offset worked the best.

Sorry if this a dumb question but could i use a set of 2010+yzf450 or 2012+Yzf250 top and bottom clamps on a 15/16 two smoke? And what will the difference's be?

Txs.

If you press a 2005-16 steering stem, then they'll fit your frame.

The lower clamp will fit your forks.

2010+ 450 or 2013+ 250F upper triple clamps wont fit your upper fork tubes, until you bore out the clamp.

I think the 2016 4 stroke triples went back to 25mm offset. But I'm not sure.

I don't know the stiffness difference between 450, 250F and 250T triples.

All 48mm KYB have 59.0mm lower clamp.

2005-14 2 strokes: Upper 56.0mm.

2005-09 YZ450F: Upper 56.0. Triple offset 25mm

2005-12 YZ250F: Upper 56.0. Offset 25mm

2010-15 YZ450F: Upper 54.0. Offset 22mm

2013-15 YZ250F: Upper 54.0. Offset 22mm

2011 yz450f top clamp. Remove 2mm to get the 56mm. ( don't forget to shim the gap to make the holes round before machining).

These pictures are from 09 clamps but its the same idea.

Press out stem. ( Presses out the bottom of the clamp )

This is the 2002 lower clamp but imagine its the 09 from above.

clamp_no_stem.jpg

Old stem from original forks ready to be pressed into 2011 clamp.
