hour meter with 3 wires to a bike with no battery

How is this done? Bike master hour meter has 3 wires, one which goes to the battery, however my ktm doesn't have a battery. Any alternatives? 

 

One wire goes to spark plug, one goes to ground, other goes to_____?

If you took your battery out you could run the wire to the positive battery lead you probably taped off? or the other end of it lugged onto the starter solenoid.   Or you can return it and buy a internal battery type hourmeter.

I've got a 1 wire unit and just wrap around the top of the spark plug boot.

 

I've I was to do it again I might go wireless and get one with the tach option. My meter is not where I can see it or even if it was could I read it while riding but it's nice to have the tach to set your idle.
