xr250l shock link length?

Recommended Posts

Dads attempt to lower his xr250l created an ill handling harsh ride. And then...WP_20151102_15_31_06_Pro_zpsat2py2mz.jpg

He thinks he shortened the link 1/4". I need to get it welded.

Anyone know the stock length eye to eye?

I would like to have somewhat of a baseline length rather than a guess.

Thanks in advance

I guess your Bone was 80 mm Eye to Eye .

If you want to lower the bike try one from a XR600R (82 mm ) or XL600 R (84 mm)

My dad shortened it which did lower the bike.

You are saying a longer one will lower the bike?

It lasted quite a while before it broke. I landed hard, but not real hard.

If I end up keeping the bike I want it back to stock. A new one is 220+ that is if it is available.

For now we Will lengthen it and reweld.

Hopefully I can find a stock one for a decent price.

I assumed the link was shortened. My bad.

You are right. A longer link lowers the bike.

Going to make a new one out of 6061 alum.

Any idea how much 2mm Will change seat height?

My dad lengthened it (link) by measuring 1.5 inch lower seat height and then measuring eye to eye distance. Which he thinks was 1/4 longer. Obviously this was too much and affected ride and suspension characteristics too dramatically.

With 84mm being roughly .160" vs .250" longer is that going to be a happy medium? Or do you think 82mm would be better.

I don't physically have the link with me, but I will measure the length it was before it broke before I do anything.

Thanks.

Pops made this on a drill press with a harbor freight milling attachment.

Works great.

Ended up slightly lower but suspension works good.

Just over 100mm

I've got a Kouba lowering link for a 600 and the stock link from my xr400 and both appear to be 90mm.
