YZ 250 2015 plastics on a 2004 model?

Recommended Posts

Its time for me to spend some money on my YZ,  I was going to get $150 graphics kit. But I hear swapping to the newer plastics is not much more than that, is that true? I know its possible on the aluminum framed bikes, but what about my steel framed 04? I heard the sub frame is different?  IDK what to do tho, I kinda like the older style better.. what would you do?

Me too. Don't understand what the "re-style" hype is all about...

Well you already have the "new shape" front guard fitted. I prefer the standard plastics myself. You would be able to fit UFO's restyle kit to your bike. You would not be able to bolt the 2015 Yamaha plastics straight up to your bike.

Interesting that your idea of bolting straight up includes buying a full UFO Restyle plastic kit just for a front guard and front plate, and then on top of that, buying a genuine 2015 Yamaha YZ airbox and going to all the trouble of fitting it, to then use 2015 side panels and rear guard. Did you bother to read the original post ??

This kit is cheaper and comes supplied with a 15 style airbox cover which you rivet (rivets supplied) to the 02-14 airbox for the 15/16 look.so no need to buy the new airbox.check it out.

I just wanted to start off by saying you are a f**king idiot. Smez is actually offering good information despite the fact that it could all be found if the OP just did some searching on this forum. Do you really think he was suggesting to buy a full UFO restyle kit just to use the front fender/ number plate?

To the OP:

Rocky mountain sells the 2015 oem conversion kit minus the front plate here:

https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/1046/55440/Yamaha-2015-Plastic-Conversion-Kit-?v=10889

They also sell all of the UFO restyle plastics INDIVIDUALLY. Here is a link to the front number plate:

https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/1046/52036/UFO-Restyle-Front-Number-Plate?v=10889

Although, you could probably find them cheaper on Ebay, and the front fender that comes with the 2015 conversion kit would need new holes drilled to fit your triple clamps. That is why Smez suggested that you use the UFO restyle front fender (same design and doesn't require drilling)

That Racetech kit that uses rivets for the air box covers looks like a nice (and much cheaper) alternative to buying a new OEM air box. I did the 2015 conversion on my 2008 yz250 and I think it looks great.
