aluminum free piston mod

Recommended Posts

swapping the stock plastic free pistons in my 14yz 250 2t, I  noticed the spi aluminum free pistons are about 1/8" shorter than the stock plastic units. Any real concerns with this difference?

Those pistons are suspension direct pistons. Call them and make sure they will work.

Nope.  The SDI pistons usually don't have the upper o-ring in place anyway, just the upper bushing.  As long as it doesn't somehow cover the breather hole in the cartridge by being shorter it'll be fine.

There are a couple of sdi pistons for different years of kybs. Just make sure what you've got and go from there.

From my understanding,

with the piston's body being vented the top of the piston doesn't need to be sealed like the stock piston (not drilled), reason there is no upper o-ring on the SDI ones.
